PRESS RELEASE!
HOLLYWOOD,
FLORIDA
January 19,
2008
Actor, comedian,
doctor and producer Bill Cosby has led anti-gun marches to call
attention against gun use in today’s society and among young people.
Gaspar
Cunha is a local Brazilian-American artist known nationwide
representing tropicalism and scenes of Florida in his paintings.
Cunha wants to help Cosby and others against gun violence make a
difference and has painted a portrait of Bill Cosby and will
dedicate it at an appearance by Cosby on Sunday January 20th
in Hollywood, Florida.
“I have
placed local pamphlets that educate about gun violence and violence
in general which exists in our south Florida society. It is an
issue that I believe needs to be addressed and educating as many
people as possible will hopefully prevent such violence,” says Cunha,
56.
Cosby
makes many appearances in schools and community events educating
young people about the topic and artist Cunha wants to donate this
portrait to him—either as a homage to the performer to keep, or
possibly for a charity auction which will benefit his anti-violence
efforts.
Marty
Reagan works PR for artist Gaspar Cunha. “This particular painting
features Bill Cosby and has Miami’s Freedom Tower and blue skies, as
well as a message painted on a building’s wall which reads, No
Guns, Please!” says Reagan. “The large painting does not
miss-out on beauty or the message.”
The
painting is oil on canvas and will be dedicated and includes a
certificate of authenticity, is numbered and is stamped with Cunha’s
raised seal.
Cunha is
the creator of a style of art called ‘raised neon’ which is applied
on top of the oil-painted canvas directly from an acrylic tube. He
has had great success with his style locally and at the New York Art
Expo. He feels that he is not only doing this to promote art in
Florida, but also standing-up for peace and anti-violence,
particularly gun violence, in today’s society.
Gaspar
Cunha Gallery is in downtown Miami and his website is
www.gasparcunha.com.
